Still Not Out Of The Woods
(Kurt Fortmeyer)
Dad Zone Music ASCAP
There once was a boy he resembled a much younger me
He went searching for joy in unbridled debauchery
What he found was trouble folks thought it had straightened him out
But I know what he’s thinking and that’s why I’m harboring doubt
I broke some rules and I found out that life’s not a game
And I saw the light but the dark side keeps calling my name
I’ve stumbled and tumbled I’ve been down and up to no good
And I can see the clearing but I’m still not out of the woods
He encountered addictions they wrapped him up in chains made of lies
He could look in the mirror but not at that look in his eyes
He stole from his loved ones and paid no regard to the cost
Time and trust were not he only things that were lost
I broke some rules and I found out that life’s not a game
And I saw the light but the dark side keeps calling my name
I’ve stumbled and tumbled I’ve been down and up to no good
And I can see the clearing but I’m still not out of the woods
Now the hard times make him hungry and the hunger makes a mess of his mind
He tries to count his blessings but recall what he thought he left behind
So he does what he can to keep the wolves and those feelings at bay
Knocked down to his knees he confesses his weakness every day
I broke some rules and I found out that life’s not a game
And I saw the light but the dark side keeps calling my name
I’ve stumbled and tumbled I’ve been down and up to no good
And I can see the clearing but I’m still not out of the woods
I can see the clearing but I’m still not out of the woods
I can see the clearing but I’m still not out of the woods
I can see the clearing but I’m still not out of the woods

Trey is one of my favorite songwriters, and the pickers he gathered together for this project take a bluegrass backseat to nobody...plus he cut one of my songs (but I'm not the least bit biased). Kurt Fortmeyer
