I'M NOT A FOOL (Kurt Fortmeyer/Donald Wood) The local fire department is good at saving lives They let me volunteer down there but they don't let me drive I've coached Little League and soccer but I don't do that anymore It all went out the window when I walked in through this door Now I'm the life of the bar room and I'm everybody's friend When I tell the bartender "set 'em up again" And I know what it looks like but things aren't what they seem I'm not a fool I just play one on Jim Beam A cap comes off a bottle an evil genie casts a spell Makes me throw all of my money into a whiskey well I start knocking back the doubles 'til the barkeep makes last call And I'm too stoned to read the neon writing on the wall Yeah I'm the life of the bar room and I'm everybody's friend When I tell the bartender "set 'em up again" And I know what it looks like but things aren't what they seem I'm not a fool I just play one on Jim Beam And I can't help but thinking I could be a stand-up guy If I could keep from drinking and it's not like I don't try But when i sit down on this stool a change comes over me I'm not a fool I just play one on Jim Beam I'm not a fool I just play one on Jim Beam

about

Fans of Guy Clark, Tom Russell, Robert Earl Keen, and Kris Kristofferson will be saying “What’s Not To Love About That?” when they hear the latest CD from Nashville-by-way-of-North Carolina singer-songwriter Kurt Fortmeyer. Rooted firmly in the traditional storytelling styles of his heroes, Kurt delivers ten of his best on this self-released offering, three solo writes and seven co-writes with good friends such as "Bo Thomas" Biermann, CJ Watson, and Trent Jeffcoat…all but one written since he moved to Nashville.
